Galley Plumbing

We unknowingly poured hamburger grease down the galley sink. Now neither of the double sinks is draining. We tried boiling hot water & liquid dish detergent to help flush but to no avail. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Pull the drainage pipes apart and do it the hard way. Don't forget to close the seacock. You might be able to save a little time by replacing the main vertical pipe although that stuff is expensive. Mine cost $12/foot.

How about using a heat gun on the drain lines, likely there is a plug of grease right at the water line, get it heated up good then pour a couple gallons of boiling water down the drain.

I'm not familiar with your drain setup, but if you can poke a hole through the grease plug then boiling water should do the trick. A piece of heavy wire cable, maybe 6 ga, or coax or whatever you have on hand. Otherwise a plumber's tape is cheap if you don't want to pull things apart.

Re: Galley Plumbing

Take your fresh water hose, wrap a dish rag around to create a seal, use another dish rag to plug up the other drain. Insert the hose to one of the drains and turn on water. Problem solved as the water pressure will flush the drain pipe.

I use this stuff because it's supposed to be safe. Seems to work good. Close the thru hull, add mix and wait an hour. Also Lye does the trick but not as easy on marine life. Both work in cold water. Water membrane cleaner uses lye if you have a water maker. Both at Amazon.

Re: Galley Plumbing

You may want to try what we do every 2-3 weeks. Put boiling water in the sink with a big squirt of dish soap. Then plunger it until only clean water shows. This keeps the hose free of build up. A plunger is your friend

Good luck

Re: Galley Plumbing

I keep one of those cheap roll-up drain snake/tapes under the sink in our head. Great for snaking out the occasional clogs be it sinks drains or other plumbing/hose. We've got a small sink plunger too, for the lesser jobs. Works great!
