Fridge Compressor Refit

My old Adler/Barbour compressor is dead. What is involved in replacing it with a suitable new compressor. Does it require a professional to do the job?

Pretty much yes, as it was likely R-12 etc.
However, you sure the compressor is shot, they are pretty tough.

Fridge Compressor Refit

The compressor is usually never the problem . These small Danfoss compressors are rated for 200000 hrs . So I would look at other failures in the system before suspecting the compressor. What are your symptoms ?

Re: Fridge Compressor Refit

It is very very unlikely you have an Adler Barbour compressor failure. Why do you believe compressor is dead sounds like more advice from the technician from Hell again. There might be one out of 5000 Danfoss BD compressors on Adler Barbour systems that might need to be replaced but in each of these case it is wiser to replace the complete system. In most cases you can repair your refrigerator without tools.

Free help is always available on the web but you need to provide details and history about your problem. Would you go to the doctor and explain only that your feel bad hurts.

I'm in the same boat - old Adler-Barbour Cold Machine. What is the usual amperage draw on these? When did they switch from r-12 to R134?

How many amps is your unit drawing ? If it is running the compressor is probably not your problem. More then likely there is something else in the system that has let you down. Are you getting any cooling at all ?

Regards John.
