Fresh water tank sanitation

What's the best chemical to use and to use it to sanitize the water tank">fresh water tank?

I use bleach per the linked Practical Sailor article. We leave the tanks full with chlorinated water in the lines. When we splash the boat we empty the tanks, fill with fresh water, empty the tanks again, and then we are good to go to the next haulout. Definitely clean out the aerators on your faucets after the purge.

I have heard peroxide is good since it does not cause corrosion like bleach .. and it neutralizes tastes and odors.
