Wow! How did I miss that one. I'm a fair guy and everybody knows it. I'll always buy the first round and you can buy the second three.

I'm sure that's factored into the high initial price of a Spectra, but it sure is nice to have that kind of service when you are in BFE.

Also, many of the o-rings in the Clarkson pump can be replaced with standard o-rings that you can get in any place with good supplies. Correct me if I am techincally wrong Tellie, but as a field repair it works.

First things first belize, it's a Clark pump not a Clarkson pump

But yes you are correct. Most of the O-rings sizes are easily sourced for a quick repair. Some O-rings are not, but by the time those come into play, if ever, it would be seriously time to think of re-building the Clark pump.

And to reiterate, as of yesterday we are now the official service center for the Katadyn watermakers. So those of you who would like to purchase a Katadyn or need help with parts or service, we are going to be bringing the service level on the Katadyn systems up to the same standards we always provided for the Spectra watermakers.

One more thing.
I will, in the next few days be putting together a special introductory package deal on the Spectra PowerSurvivor40e and the Spectra PowerSurvivor80e just for CF members who might be interested in one of these watermakers.

One question for tellie is the motor and gearbox assembly available for the 35E ?

newhaul, I am extremely sorry. I have been out here at Spectra this week going over the Katadyn systems with Spectra and things were and still are a bit hectic. I brought your question with me but I totally dropped the ball and forgot to ask it. I promise that first thing Monday morning I will find out if that motor and gearbox are still available. I know that we did cover the ability to support the older Katadyn and PUR units but I want to make sure I have the exact answer first. Please always feel free to call me anytime. (954) 515-7077

Does that mean katadyn is being rebranded as part of the takeover?

Katadyn is into a lot of other things besides their watermakers, such as their camping and outdoor items, and those will still remain Katadyn. But until I hear different my understanding it is the Spectra PowerSurvivor 40e and 80e.

Re: Fresh water makers best price and performance?

I took the spectra field technician school several years ago. I learned alot. Tho I can figure out the katadine I was seeking a certification from them but they did not offer it. Its nice to be certified to prove some compatence. I hope they can combine and continue training.

Fresh water makers best price and performance?

I've got a Katyden 160e water maker (which they no longer sell) I had not used for 12 months even though I had pickled it, when I went to use it salt water had some how gotten into the motor and seized it up. It had a fair amount of salt and corrosion. I was told in Australia that the motor was no longer available but after contacting the American office they said they did have one available, for $1800US, but by the time it would have gotten to Australia with our low dollar at the moment & freight I would've been looking at about $3500 for a motor. I definitely don't think that it is worth spending that much money on a four year old system. I have looked at another system available in Australia and they started talking about starting price of somewhere new $12,000. Since I'm not going to be living on board for possibly another 18 months I think I will be better to wait and get a new system closer to then.
I do like the look of that cruise RO water system, and price does look pretty good even with delivery from America.
The Katyden I had was only 12 volt, but since I have a Fisher panda 8kva generator on board I think the electric model with the extra production would be a better option. The 160e only produced 25 lph. Click image for larger version

Check with a DC electric shop one that rebuilds things like alternators and starter motors for automobiles. They should be able to rebuild the motor reasonable priced. FWIW

How much water does a tow behind water maker make at anchor where most cruisers spend 90+ % of their time?
