Freezer Size?

Hi:

We planning a round-the-world cruise through equatorial waters and I wonder how big a freezer works for 3-4 sailors? We'll be custom-installing one and I'm thinking 1.5 - 2.0 cubic feet ...

Any experience or insights?

Thanks /jon

were it me...

I'd start with the system first, and then design the box around it. Will you spend more time on the hook or in marinas? Different systems are going to be ideal for different cruising styles. If you're a run-the-generator-an-hour-a-day guy, you should probably have a totally different type of system than if you're a solar-panel-and-wind-turbine guy.

Find the system that matches your energy budget, and then design its optimal box.

Depends on what you eat. If you eat frozen food all the time it won't last long. Work the menu backwards. It always helps to save a few meals for the days that require celebration or rewards. Food aboard is like nothing else when you've worked hard.

Just knowing a good meal is ahead can get some extra effort from any respectable crew that knows how good it can be. After a week or so desert alone might be enough. Cook as best you can at all times.
