Forespar Anti-Siphon Loop Leaking!

Hi: I just re plumbed my head and the forespar duck bill valve is leaking.. when i clear the bowl......It's at the right height 12'' above the healed water line.......any advice ?.............Thanks Ed

What is the fall from the anti-siphon valve to the thru-hull or holding tank? (Hopefully you're not pumping out through the hull in Cortez!) The only way the valve would leak is if there was enough pressure in the line to force the waste material up into the valve, which should ot be the case unless there is an obstruction in the thru-hull or their is an obstruction in the vent in the holding tank. If you're using the holding tank, given your location, check your vent line. The "mud dobbers" may have made a nice little nest that is obstructing the vent. If so, It will be in the first few inches inside the thru-hull fitting. We had this problem with a vent on our Cal 2-29 when we had her at Snead Island.

the fall is pretty good to the seacock....since this is a new installation, I'm checking the system with fresh water.....as far as i know the seacock is fully open.....switch the y valve to the holding tank and the vent still leaks...................Ed

Ed, are you sure the rubber duck-bill valve is actually in place in the loop? (If you bought the valve at West Marine check to be sure. I bought one some years ago and dicovered that someone had appropriated the little rubber valve!) Is the valve facing the right direction? (I'm sure you know that the duck-bill should be facing inward not outward. The water pressure, if there is any, should force the lips closed--like a joker valve.) You may also simply have a bad valve. West does (or did) sell replacements.

Yea....the valve is in and the ducks bill in towards the inside.....even put my hand over one end and gave it a blow to test it b4 i installed it......may be it is a bad valve......might try to put some lube on it... dont know how old it is.it was from the PO.and he never installed it...and might be a little dry

the valve will leak a little when initally closing, remember it cannot anticipate fluid, it can only react once fluid hits it.
That being said, the valve should be vented overboard to prevent waste from entering the cabin.

Sailmonkey's exactly right. Forespar offers a vent barb (MF-846) which retails for $6-$8 depending upon source.
