Evaporator Plate Size

Just about to order my evaporator plate for my new fridge . The box is 10 cubic feet and has R50 insulation all the way around . I will be using a Danfoss DB35 compressor / air cooled and a rollbond plate .

I know Richard Kollmann suggests a 386 sq inch evaporator plate for the DB35 and I could make that fit . But is there an advantage to using the max size plate even if it is over kill , basically will this larger plate be more efficient then a smaller one in the same box ?

Regards

Re: Evaporator Plate Size

Selecting a refrigeration system for icebox conversion begins with the estimated heat load of each box to be refrigerated. The variable speed BD50 compressor can efficiently convert a 4 to 6 cubic ft box into a refrigerator freezer in warm climates. A box of 10 cu ft will require maximum hourly Btu output 300 to 500 Btu at times from the BD50 compressor. The evaporator and condenser selected is always sized to handle maximum believed needed compressor output.

I recommend a 400 to 500 square inch surface area thin plate evaporator for a ten cubic ft 36 degree F refrigerator Box. Compressor speed will need to be adjustable manually or automatically from 2500 rpm to 3500 rpm depending on condenser cooling air temperatures.

If Boat remains in Canada waters the BD35 compressor will need an evaporator that can absorb only 250 to 300 Btu of heat per hour.
