A bit off topic but there is very little to break in those 3 way fridges.

Thermostat, electric heating element, bimetal strip, propane nozzle, or gas igniter is pretty much it.

When they stop working it is very often an air blockage inside. Spin the unit upside down for 30 minutes, let the liquid flow down, return it the right side up and wait another 30 minutes. Voila, air blockage is fixed.

Just ensure they are flat when using them as they don't like being on an incline they won't get cold. Makes it a bit hard to keep cool when 4wd lol...

Only worthwhile if stationary for a long period of time such as a caravan park and using propane. Forget using 12 volt as it is very weak and power hungry using DC.

Re: Evaluating 12v Portable Freezer Options

Just an update here. We have been running our Dometic CF-40 24/7/365 now since July of 2012. It has never missed a beat. Weve pulled it off the boat when we were on the hard and used it in the hotel plugged into AC power as well. All in all a great device. The only complaint would be the insulating cover we purchased. The zipper has not held up well but I dont think it was designed for full time liveaboard use.
