The other thing is to check the very fine filter in the infeed side of the electric pump. This is the tiny thimble filter fitted into the immediate aluminium infeed this can get blocked and cause slow smokey starts.

I'd like to talk to anyone that has an Ardic heater, as I'm trying to get one on our boat operational came with out boat.

White smoke is unburnt fuel caused by a delay in firing up the heater.
The main cause is usually a carboned up glow pin screen.
Eberspacher, as named in the UK, recommend a full service every 2000 hours.
You can do it youself, full details of servicing and fault finding on D2 and D4 heaters is on
