DIY Composting Head

This is for the people who use, plan to use, or sympathize with composting heads - if you want to debate the merits of composters versus other sorts of heads, this is not the thread for you.

Solids
  • standard 5 gallon bucket with locking lid (cut vent in lid)
  • secured within plywood box
  • top of box has locking removable panel
  • removable panel has hole smaller than diameter of bucket
  • standard toilet seat affixed around hole
  • Use: remove panel, remove lid, replace panel, use, remove panel, replace lid, replace panel
  • Disposal: remove bucket, dump overboard, wash as necessary
  • Benefits: cannot spill, carbon material is only input, easily replaceable parts, no moving parts

Liquids
  • funnel attached to wall as urinal bowl
  • funnel outlet clamped to hose
  • hose clamped to simple manual valve
  • valve attached to PVC
  • PVC sized to 5 gallon jug opening and glued in permanently
  • Use: open valve, use
  • Disposal: remove jug, empty overboard
  • Benefits: cannot spill, no inputs at all, easily replaceable parts, only moving part is basic valve

Problems?

Awesome dude. Like... Why didn't Thomas Edison think of that? You can like, put it right next to your bed, then you don't have to walk to no separate room, man.

LOL
In one apartment I had, during renovations I put a hose through the wall and it went down to the floor 2 storeys below.
Problem?
Killed the plants.

You can't chuck it near shore.

Great offshore, but don't want to be crapping in public in an anchorage.

Or I could just use the extremely simple system that I described in the OP.

...about which no one has had anything serious to say, good or bad.

Have you ever been around a composting head on a boat?

Did it stink?

Lots of composter users on this forum say it doesn't.
