Compost - Dry or Explosive ?

Almost no one likes propane because of the danger. Seems like we could use the methane produced prior to, and often during pooping for human good. I'd think these $500 a mo cruisers eating beans and rice could well capture their methane in a homemade head/5 gal bucket/Igloo cube cooler, empty milk jug, whatever, and sell it fer profit.

I've heard cow flatulence is stinking up the ozone layer. Couldn't we capture it in some flexible material, and sell it for fuel? Like dime or nickel bags. Gasses are quite compressible. Think how much could be crammed into a scuba cylinder! (Might want to have a special sticker for that tank to avoid confusion, or much worse.) Obviously, if it leaks, it has a built-in safety odor. My flatulence has an aroma of lavender and a hint of cinnamon most days. Other days, more like Texas Pete hot sauce.

Also, I know we have to keep the urine separated from the "other" stuff. What about an old guy like me sitting there, meditating, who might have a tendency to drivel a little or even a lot?

Caution: thread drift: why do we feel sooooo much better after a BM? I happen to have dry, perfectly-shaped stools but do those with diarrhea also feel better er wot?

Hell sounds like a topic as worthy as many other that are on here.Instead of the green approach you could patent brown technology.Hell Oboma might even help with the start up.Get a big grant hire people then go tango uniform.marc ps also enjoying ronrico.

Now just how big are these perfectly formed stools? I assume they are well tapered to prevent the door from slamming shut?

Color me embarrassed! But rather than answer directly, allow me to proudly say my composting head will not have a stirrer/agitator. It would be a shame to destroy some real performance art. It's my answer to Georgia O'keeffe's work... flowers? yeah right.

now seriously, I was wondering about the same (initial question):
if you do have diarrhea what happens? (except you have to clean up the bowl since there is no flush whatsoever) does it affect the performance of the composting toilet!?

Actually I can state for certain that it will not effect the "composting" part. BUT....the guy that was onboard a couple of days and had some STINKY **** needs to learn some etiquette. Like OPEN the freaking window!!!!! Sorry...you made me do it

In all seriousness.......

I am about to have my "diseased", gall-bladder removed, so this posting has a informational slant for me.

I am always looking at reducing my thru-hulls and a composter for a single person(me), seems like a more realistic option than holding tanks and clean-outs.

With this in mind, boy... for me(and the condition in which I find myself),it would be nice if this discussion could be more in line of the original question

If yer diseased gall bladder is currently plumbed to a thru-hull, I can see where removal would be a real advantage and allow you much more freedom of movement on the boat. And one less hole in the boat once glassed over.

The only bladder-to-thru hull I have is the collapsible holding tank bladder which I really don't NEED due to my perfectly formed, well-tapered stools, that are so dry as to be just days, if not mere hours away from being nice healthy compost. My secrets? Diet and exercise.

Don't pay any attention to Blue Crab. He's still wishing he'd not been caught drinking and posting.

There is no reason to believe off hand that loose stool would make composting fail. Unless you're very stick, the volume and fluid content of still will never be close to urine.

If you feel your needs might be met by a compost head give it a try.
