Say Peg, while you're here...

Years ago I was impressed by the stainless head on the first Airbus I was on. Looked like it would be great for a boat. Smooth, easy to clean, no doubt lightweight too.

Anyone make something like THAT for boaters? (Other than the Italian composite exotics at four figures that I've seen.)

Monel tanks can be worth more than the boat they're on!

The toilet bowls on a lot of aircraft today are steel. Although they're typically cleaned several times a day, they still have to be replaced fairly often due to corrosion from urine. If there's ever been a steel--any metal--marine toilet bowl, I've never run across one. Urine would eat through it same as it eats through metal holding tanks.

I had an all-stainless toilet on my last boat. It was an air-flush unit made by Microphor.

I'll be d'd! It took some digging but I managed to find what appears to be an all steel--not just the bowl--marine toilet. Microphor is pretty stingy with information about any of the their stuff...could find much if any info on anything.

Peg--I bought that stainless steel toilet new, from Microphor, along with another toilet that had a china bowl. This was in the early '90's. A magnificent system--very quiet operation--just a very slight hiss from the compressed air. No pumps or macerators! Of course there were onboard air compressors, one ac electric, another engine driven, which also operated pneumatic throttle and shift controls. The waste went into a very large treatment tank (charged with redwood chips!) which gravity fed into a holding tank.

Very interesting. Maybe that's why the Italians were using carbon fiber. (I was exploring options at the time, for a racing boat that the owner's wife insisted have a "real" head on it, despite the weight penalty.(G)

Carbon fiber do better than stainless?
