Check Valves in Fresh Water System

I am in the midst of redoing our fresh water system and was wondering what ABYC says about check values - do you need them? If yes where?

thanks,
Geoff.

Re: Check Valves in Fresh water system

I place one just at the pressure side of the domestic pump, so when on dockside water there is no possibility of backfilling the tank accidentally. That said, I usually rig a bypass valve around the pump and check valve to fill the water tanks without opening the deck fill.

Re: Check Valves in Fresh water system

FWIW your pump already disallows back flow. Depending upon the cracking pressure, you will surely degrade water flow to some greater or lesser extent.
