My LPG solenoid valve drew 1.1A at 12V. I had two problems with that. It seemed to be a waste of electricity, and the coil got hot which I figured resulted in a shortened life.
I found this circuit on line.
I added the suggested parallel resistor-capacitor circuit in series with my LPG solenoid. As advertised it cut the current to 0.2 or 0.3A at 12V. I did have some trouble with the solenoid not pulling in at times. I would have to flick the switch a few times until I heard the usual thump, so I increased the capacitance to 3000uF and the solenoid now opens reliably. With the reduced current flow the solenoid coil no longer becomes hot, and I have saved 0.7A while my wife cooks a loaf of bread.
