Bilge pump Cavitations

Bilge pump Cavitations
Hi Everyone Has anyone had experience with bilge pump cavitations. I had a small rule bilge pump that was discharging via hose across ck valve This winter I rewired the pump this spring as I was cleaning the bilge and accumulated water the pump came on automatically but just cavitate so I lifted pump from filter cage and the pump worked right away as I reinstalled to test it would not work so I removed the ck valve as I have a High loop on discharge. While at it I thought maybe the pump had the wrong rotation so I brought pump home and by this time I decided to use an older bran of pump with a 1inch hose without the hose the pump discharged right away with a 3 foot clear hose the pump was cavitaeing till I flipped the switch a couple of times and then it would take off pumping
any Ideas out there, should I buy another pump, I am worried that the pump could come on automatically and cavitate till batteries are dead or worse yet have bilge filling and primary pump not discharging

Remove the check valve and keep the loop. Make sure the screen is clean and that there is no debris in the impeller vanes. Also make sure the voltage is not dropping under 12 volts when under a load.

How do you clean the vanes I can see the impeller vanes are clean at opening but any further I would have to take the pump apart some how

Re: Bilge pump Cavitations

I had many calls on bilge pumps not working properly. The small Rule pump I think it was 80 did not work with 100% in mind. Step up to the next size and one with the timer to insure clean overflow with- out back siphon, If you leave a boat sit unattended a bilge counter works, gives you peace of mind as to how many times it cycles

Re: Bilge pump Cavitations

Look around the sides of the strainer on the bottom for tabs.
You may find the the strainer just snaps off the bottom for easy cleaning.
