Beneteau Oceanis 45 AC sea strainer

Does anyone know who makes the air conditioner sea strainer for the 2016 Oceanis 45? I tore the gasket when I opened the strainer (it was stuck to the metal and tore as soon as I turned it.) The Beneteau dealer says they can't get the gasket, only the whole strainer!

Can you make your own? The traditional way is to lay a sheet of the right kind of gasket material (auto shop, McMaster Carr) over the opening, and then gently tap the material at the edges of the fitting with the round end of a ball-peen hammer. That cuts the gasket to fit.

The other way is coat both sides with gasket maker goo, screw it down, let it harden and then torque it. Don't torque it while its wet - you'd just be gluing the two parts, rather than forming a compression gasket.

Thanks for the replies. I was able to find an o-ring at the hardware store that fit. The original gasket was flat, but the o-ring seems to work.

The gasket that came with the boat was totally dry rotted, that's why it fell apart. Odd for a new boat. Also, the impeller on my generator failed after only 15 hours. More crappy rubber parts I guess.
