Are Gas Regulators Reliable?

My crew are concerned we need a spare regulator for cooking gas (propane at present, but we can easily swap to butane).

What do people think?

I’ve never had an LPG regulator fail, but (for the low cost) you could certainly humour your crew, especially if you're voyaging offshore.

I have never had my regulator fail but my gas solenoid fails at least once a year. For a use or two I can hit it with a wrench but then it is time to put in the spare. I don't carry a spare regulator but I do carry a spare gas solenoid.

Hate to say so, but we just replaced ours on UD.

Oh, one more thing. Did I mention the regulator was 36 years old. Bought two just in case. At $45 for two of them. WHY NOT
