Re: Anyone Using this Hose?

We had 2 of them fail within 30 days. The one from Wally World with brass fittings.

As others have mentioned its basically surgical tubing inside the weave material that keeps it together and from blowing out.

Ours failed at the fittings each time.

I suspect mixed reviews have a lot to do with how they are use. Wife had one at home she used to water all the planters in front of the house once a week and loved it. Put one of the Marina slip for the boat and couldn't get it to last a month.

The difference in those situation is the water pressure many marinas and RV parks have high pressure systems, which is why most of us have a pressure regulator, and these hoses just can't stand that high of pressure. Few homes have that kind of high water pressure so that stand up better.

Right now we have one of the stiff coiled hoses (like a slinky) at the slip and so far it has held up for a few months, but it really isn't that much more convenient than a regular hose. Sure it stretchs to 25 feet but you got to be superman to do it, and those coils will tangle and wrap themselves around every dockline, hose, or small child in the marina.

I with the other posters. "Hoses Suck, period". At the end of the day I think you just as well off with a good quality "no kink" hose, as any of the "solutions" available.

What is "no kink hose"? Do you mean one of these expandable ones?

No, if you look at garden hoses, you will see higher end ones that are no kink, they are heavier and made out of more flexible material than cheap garden hoses, I don't know if there are any that are for potable water though.

Ah, I see.

Is it important that they be food-grade? I've been drinking out of normal garden hoses for pretty much my whole life.

Re: Anyone Using this Hose?

I find that the thin walled hoses often self crimp/ fold and cut off the flow of water.

Re: Anyone Using this Hose?

I have used the shrinky ones for years first one died on a nail sticking up on the dock. Lost another to cheap plastic end connectors. Current one has seen a few seasons. Definitely use outside of cabin. They are good for general light duty, cheap and easy. If you are doing heavy work use heavy hose. Trick to coiling hose is to stretch it out strait and pile ot at your feet with a twist on every loop. Let it sit in the sun a bit first to soften then after coiled to set the shape.

Dockhead - I'm 64 and have been drinking out of graden hoses since I was about 6.

I doubt if there are any serious health issues involved.

Our books have gotten 5 star reviews on Amazon. Several readers have written "I never thought I would go on a circumnavigation, but when I read these books, I was right there in the cockpit with Vinni and Carsten"

Re: Anyone Using this Hose?

I see two common patterns in the failures:
- Hose left outside in the sun long term resulting in UV damage.
- Some marinas have really high water pressure.

Re: Anyone Using this Hose?

I use regular hoses. To avoid kinks I coil them in a figure-of-eight.

To stow I will tie it with three straps, one at each each end and one in the "waist", and then fold over. It is a bit of extra work but I do hate those kinks.
