Anyone using one of these composters?

| … handmade composting toilets

No affiliation, just saw them on ebay and thought the price was amazing.

Any feedback, UK people?

If not, can anyone see any gross flaws in this one? I am really tempted to check it out.

They look good. Glad to see the competition starting up with a few different types now on the market.

As a woman who has been using an Air Head composting toilet for 6 years, I don't think I'd be able to use this. I'd end up peeing on the lid of the solids container. With the Air Head, there is no need to aim, since it is designed so that any liquids flow into the liquids container, regardless of where they are deposited (as long as the lid to the solids container is closed, obviously.)

Re: Anyone using one of these composters?

There is no mixing device. the reason composting toilets do not have an odor is because aerobic bacteria actually smells good, think of a forest after it rains. anaerobic bacteria stinks, think of a swamp. And two other faults I see with it are that the urine drain is in the back and also it is so low that it will require a pump instead of being able to go into a container. Sorry for the multiple edits, but I just realized you could put a container directly under the funnel.

I just paid 1000.00 U.S. for a Nature's Head. So if this works for you. It sounds good.

I have been looking at the C-Head (less expensive than the Air Head and the Nature's Head and almost is low enough to go in where the regular head lives now) but these seem pretty cool. I love the style for sure. Interesting comments about usability.

Does anyone believe that poo actually composts that quickly? The lack of air flow and mixing makes it even more unlikely than an Airhead. It is well known that composting biosolids takes 3-4 months at sewage treatment plants. Perhaps if the head is barely used....

Seems like and overpriced pit to me.

Composting head is kind of a misnomer.

They're really desiccating heads.

The goal is to dry the solids to prevent bacterial growth and reduce volume.

It works very well without mixing or active ventilation.

Here's
an account of a very basic homebuilt one, no stink, owner's quite happy.

Sometimes I feel like no one reads my posts. Although not much breaking down can happen in a month, composting is in fact happening. Why bother? Because it eliminates odor! Also you reduce quantity through evaporation.( bacteria produce heat)
introducing oxygen and having a proper mixture of nitrogen, carbon and moisture are required . I would not recommend this head until a mixing device is added. and it also fails if it is not female-friendly.

And yet mixing devices are not a part of some composting head's design, and they still work just fine. I'm female and I'm not sure this is female unfriendly. I would gave to use it to see.

To not have odor without a mixing device you need to completely cover with "fill". on land where you have plenty of room this may work fine. Not so much on a boat. I'm not sure if it's female unfriendly either just that if it is it would be a fail.
