Re: Adding Discharge Pump

Yep, that is where our set up differs. I never pump directly overboard anyway and the pump will be used infrequently. Like most NE mooring fields we have municipal pump out service that comes around for free; raise the pump out burgee when you leave and like magic the tank is empty when you return.

So I have been thinking of your set-up and the conflicting info from SeaLand. If you look at the diagram and read #3 they are in direct conflict with their own instructions. Have you spoken to them about this?

Re: Adding Discharge Pump

Terra, if I eliminate the vent loop what would stop holding tank contents from siphoning back into the head under certain conditions? Wouldn't it make more sense to just eliminate the possibility? Also what would stop the pump from sucking air from the deck clean out? I would love to make it more simple but I'm afraid I don't quite understand your recommendations.

a) ...the one-way valve in the head pump, plus the fact that the head flows down to the tank.

b) ...the 0-ring in the deck fitting.

Keep. It. Simple.

Re: Adding Discharge Pump

I don't want to run the risk of emptying contents of a holding tank into the cabin so I'll stick with the vent loop. It's a small boat so head and holding are at about the same level. Y valve vs sanitary Y doesn't seem like much of a leap either and gives me more positive control. If I need to service the pump, for instance.
