A Self Contained Waste Water Treatment Plant On-board?

NASA does it on the International Space Station...so is it possible to have a head that will process the waste water into gases and water?

This BusseMF system is still a little big for a normal boat, but I like the concept. I just haven't researched it enough to know if something like this is a product that is out there already or if you need tens of thousands of dollars to implement this. And how often do you need to change out the membrane filters?

Am I crazy or would not having to pump out be a good thing? I'm not sure how fast the bacteria work to break down everything, but I would think something about 1/3rd the size in the picture could work. What do you guys think?

Looks like the power usage is about 1kWh/person/day. That makes it difficult on most smaller boats. Like the idea though.

Composting toilet (have not used one yet, but considering it) do similar with very little power usage. Still have to get rid of the urine though.

I would think processing urine is rather easy, be neat if someone made a head system that composts the, you know, and treats the urine for discharge. Or I guess buy two systems and integrate.

If we installed the lector San or similar product, we would Still not be able to discharge overboard in a no discharge zone. Right? Furthermore, if we processed the waste with the lectro san, then store in holding tank to later be pumped out, would the holding tank odor still be a problem? I would assume the treated waste would be quite benign, yes?

No.

It is only sterilized in a temporary sense (less than 100%) and would begin to stink. Additionally, the waste is only considered to "treated: if it is discharged without holding.

This information is available on Raritan's site and in Coast Guard studies.

Thinwater, that is what I was afraid of. The waste treatment seems high price for people who are in no discharge zones. I'm thinking of creating a composting system with a urie holding tank for pump out.

We have spent so much money on the traditional system, I'm gonna give it one more chance with one more round of new hoses and a glasses in tank lid( right now it is screwed down).
