Thes that work of gas etc are called Absorbsion ( spelt wrong I think) units.
Most of the mini bars you get in the hotels are also that so the guest dos'nt get disturbed by the compressor noise. Problem is they use a nasty gas. Not freon but sometimes amonia. They are also prone to corrosion and will leak quite quickly. You will know about it . LOL

Yes it is amonia. But the tubeign is very solid. It takes a lot to corrode through. If the tubing corrodes, you have other issues to worry about I think.
