Yanmar Sail Drive

Hi,

I am hoping to find someone that has pulled the upper gear assembly out of a Yanmar saildrive.

I have the SD 40 and I need to get to the drive cone that is in the upper gear assembly.

I have removed the shift lever and support, pulled the cover for the upper gear assembly and have tried to pull the gear assembly as outlined in the service manual, but is not sliding out.

I'm wondering if the pinion shaft assembly is preventing the upper gear assembly from sliding out??

If anyone knows the answer to this question I would certainly appreciate some insight. I am hoping to avoid pulling the boat out or pulling an engine just to get to the clutch cone.

Thanks again,
Meck
