Sounds like that is not the main problem. OP says message "Position fix lost" appears, so clearly the chartplotter is not getting GPS data from whatever instrument was supposed to supply that info.

This could have several causes, but that's where to start. Probably the rewiring was done incorrectly or a configuration in the chartplotter is not set correctly, and if a pro did that, he should be ashamed of not checking the system for this basic function before leaving.

and even back then some RM CP had internal GPS, like mine does. So if there is no external GPS receiver and the CP is set for external its never going to work. On the other hand if there is an autopilot it will have its own fluxgate which as it was powered down will need to be reset.

I think if it was me I would source all the components, disconnect the battery and all the SeaTalk etc connections and begin again starting with powering up the CP and looking for an internal GPS source by selecting that off the menu. If the option isnt there he should be looking for an external GPS receiver. Gradually introduce the components from the CP menu ending with the fluxgate compass.

Reconnection isnt as big a deal as all that since the wiring should be in place and cut to length with connections. At worst it will be a learning experience connecting it all back up.
