What is it

Hi all
Took the plunge and bought a boat 3 months ago. I have been boating for years but never owned one. I can see clearly how that is a very different thing. I bought a Fairline Phantom 1982 , she is in good condition for her age with two new Nissan diesel engines. The out of water survey went well with a couple of recommendations, nothing too big to be done. The biggest is a new canopy which I will get done but not right now. I’m hoping you might be able to guide me on something because information on this boat is hard to come by. I have a bow thruster problem that the survey did not pick up on and it’s an intermittent problem where it stops working. I know the brushes can cause this and if I give the motor a little “Tap” it works for a while, so I believe these need replacement. There are no markings that I can see on the motor, how do I go about identifying it so I can decide what I can do and what parts to order. I am not sure about taking the motor out while in the water.
Thanks for any guidance
Derek

Re: What is it

Something I learned recently about thrusters is they have a fairly quick thermal cutoff.

Aside from servicing the motor, be sure you are not simply overheating it.

Re: What is it

Thks for coming back so quickly, I barely engage it, not enough to over heat anything. The fact that a "tap" gives me a temporary fix suggests that its the brushes....so I'm told
