Volvo Saildrive Problem

HELLO. I HAVE A BAVARIA 44 VISION, NEW IN 2008. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE SAILDRIVE ENGAGES PROMTLY INTO ACTION AS I PULL THE LEVER BACKWARDS. AS I PUSH THE LEVER FORWARDS THERE IS A TIME DELAY OF ABOUT 10 SEC. THIS CAN COUSE PROBLEMS I HAVE THEREFORE DECIDED WITH THE HELP OF VOLVO TO GET IT FIXED ON THE GUARENTEE. THE VOLVO PEOPLE SAY THEY HAVE TO TAKE THE BOAT OUT OF THE WATER TO DO THIS JOBB. MY FRIEND, WHO HAS BUILDED 2 SAILING BOATS HIMESELF SAYS THE REPAIR CAN BE DONE WHILE THE BOAT IS IN THE WATER, BY OPENING THE GEAR BOX FROM THE TOP AND THEN PROBABLY CHANGING THE CLUTCH. tHE LAST OPTION WOULD SAVE ME TIME AND MONEY. I HOPE THERE IS SOMBEBODY OUT THERE WITH EXPERIENCE IN THIS KIND OF PROBLEM. THANKING BEFOREHAND.

BEST REGARDS

New 2008 can still be within warranty service. You do not open anything, just have Bavaria fix it. You touch things and loose the warranty.

HELLO BARNAKIEL. THANK YOU FOR YOUR RESPONSE. I AM NOT OPENING ANYTHING. VOLVO HAS AGREED TO DO THE WORK AS A GUARENTEE CASE. THE QUESTION IS CAN IT BE DONE IN THE WATER?

Yes, it probably needs to come out of the water. I had a similar recent problem when a lock ring was left out at overhaul. The lock ring could be repaired from the top but because the main shaft dropped lower than designed due to missing ring, the shifting fork was worn and needed replacement. That required disassembly. If you try to fix it from the top, you may miss secondary damage lower in the unit. Have them take it apart and fix it right.
