Re: Stuffing box adjustment

If you ever lose your corkscrew overboard, you can use it for that in a pinch. I have the grease type packing gland, and I have been considering using a dripless, I had 2 on my last commercial boat and they worked great.

Re: Stuffing box adjustment

Adjusted for one drip every 30 seconds with motor turning shaft and no water with engine off.

Re: Stuffing box adjustment

One final question. Should I have used some kind of grease when fitting the new packing glands?

Re: Stuffing box adjustment

I like to apply some grease to the threads of the fitting, makes it easier to adjust the gland.

Not necessary.
