S drive rubber collar

I have had my bottom totally sanded and a primer coat applied. I have a Volvo my 2040 with a sail drive. There is a rubber collar that gets glued to the hull and it fits around the s drive. Manual says

When collar is being installed, the glue surface between the boat and the collar should be sanded clean and washed with acetone.

Use a good grade of contact adhesive, intended for use on plastic and rubber.

I am in Grenada so have limited supplies. Any names of adhesives that you have ha success with that might work? I will then see if they are carried on the island.

Thanks

Re: S drive rubber collar

I've used 3M products like 4000 or 4200 to hold it in place. There is a discussion here about this if search a bit.

I remember reading it once and tried to find before I posted. I was unable to locate. Thanks for the reply.

Re: S drive rubber collar

Another poster on CF reports good service with a high viscosity contact cement called "Ados F3". This appears to be a CRC product, but I don't know if you can get it where you are located.

Years ago when VP included cement with the boot, the product which they included was made by Bostik and was called " Kontaktlim A3".

Look for a high viscosity industrial contact cement, such as that found for automotive weather stripping.

Also use Sikaflex - with very good results. Key component is to prepare both the 'flats' - sand them thoroughly and clean with acetone first and then apply the Sikaflex. Fair the edges after the boot has been in place for about 24 hours. I have actually done this between tides using plenty of fresh water on the beach.
