Replacement Propeller Nut for Wauquiez Centurion

Desperately searching for a replacement propeller nut for 1985 Wauquiez Centurion. Pretty sure this is the original prop shaft and our mechanic (who shall remain nameless) is not only unable to find a replacement nut but can't give us the measurement. Our MaxProp was sent out to be serviced and required quite a bit more work than I expected. Mechanic said he could put the old propeller back on but, not being a mechanic, I did not realize the nut was er....going to be so hard to crack!

The boat has a Perkins 4-108 and a Hurth HBW150V, 2.99:1 transmission and our survey says the propeller shaft is 35mm stainless steel. The nut for the max prop is 2.4 cm on the interior. The threads are 5 per cm. The threads on the end of the prop shaft taper....

The mechanic and a local propeller specialist say they've never seen this style of thread and don't know what to call it! They tried the nut for a Benetau and the mechanic says he's tried everything he knows. So, I'm looking once again for a little help from all my fellow cruisers, even if it's just a recommendation for a good propeller guy. Can't believe I'm having this much trouble 20 miles from Annapolis. Forget the weekend, at this point I'm trying to salvage the rest of the month!

First thing you need to do is measure carefully with a good caliper and determine what the size is. Then take a look here:

McMaster-Carr

I responded to you on the Wauquiez owners group and I am in Annapolis and a Wauquiez owner. Who are the mechanic and "propeller specialist" you are working with? I know a few in the area and also an excellent machinist who could make you a nut if needed but you need to first measure with a caliper and detemine the size.

Im assuming the max prop nut fit right? Why not try calling PYI and speaking to them? Danny is the guy there who rebuilt my max prop and he was very helpful with questions. Assuming its a Max prop nut then they should know what the size is.

If you want PM me and I can give you some first rate folks in Annpolis area to talk to.

You need a thread pitch guage to determine what kind of thread you have. If you have any friends in the machining trade they may have one.
