Recommend mechanic Annapolis Md stuffing box

Looking for a mechanic in the Annapolis Md., Eastport area. My stuffing box needs to be repacked. Sailboat is in the water. Repacked by a mechanic last fall when boat was hauled for bottom painting. Won't comment on that last sentence. Would appreciate any leads. Thanks!

Best outfit in Naptown is Bayshore Marine, but you may have to wait depending on when you call.

But they are kinda overkill for repacking your stuffing box.

Thanks will give them a call. Sometimes you just have to suck it up and take it like a man.

Diversified Marine Services in Annapolis, they have mobile repair units if needed.
My friend Robert Sola recently purchased DMS, good people.

Laughing - I always wonder how many times I paid $350 US to get a marine fuel filter changed before I leaned how to do it myself. And then I leaned to stock a dozen of them. Magic !

Never let anyone touch your boat unaccompanied is a good starting point to avoid all that.

If it's not too far, I can't recommend enough Ferry Point Marina in Arnold.

Are you certain new packing is required? Likely an adjustment of the packing nut will resolve your problem. Try loosening the jamming nut. Then turn the packing nut in against the packing you had installed at your last haulout until you're only getting about a drip or two a minute. Then securely tighten the jam nut back in place.

And be sure to check regularly the first few hours/days that you run the engine.

A good knock from a hammer against a corner of the jam nut may be required to initially to loosen and again to tighten the nut.

Ted is awesome too but sometimes getting him to show up and actually get work done can be difficult if he is slammed. A fifth of Jack Daniels is usually a good lubricant in that situation.

Re: Recommend mechanic Annapolis Md stuffing box

Scheduling a mechanic is 2 to 3 weeks out. I did try to tighten the packing nut. Didn't try the hammer. Knowing me I would pull a Fred flinstone and really screw something up. Will give it a try this Friday. The water pump I have resolved. Pump vendors out of Floridia. Fifty dollars more than rebuilding the pump myself. Solving mechanical issues myself adds to my bank of boat knowledge. Better get to work my wife has planned a trip to St Michaels this weekend. Thanks again!
