Propeller primer?

So it's that time of the year again and I'm wondering what to antifoul the propeller with.

Propspeed would be nice but it's expensive and I'm told it's really only suited to boats that get continuous use.

Last time I sanded the prop back to bare metal and used the recommended red oxide filled vinyl etch primer followed by a hard vinyl antifoul. I'm expecting that when the boat comes out I'll again find that the barnacles and their friends have stripped everything from the prop leaving themselves glued to the bare metal. The primer seems to come off as quick as the antifouling.

So I'm wondering if it's worth trying a different primer, maybe something like POR 15 (moisture cured polyurethane?) topcoated with the vinyl primer and hard antifouling on top of that.

Anyone have any thoughts?

PropSpeed is expensive, but works great!

I use the Petit zinc paint or props. it's a spray paint and costs bout 20 bucks. Been using it about 4 years and it works great.

Pettit Zinc Barnicle Barrier 1792, 2 or 3 thin coats,
grey color.

As expected the existing antifouling had almost totally vanished and the prop was heavily fouled.

I've dug deep and splashed out on PropSpeed.

The only concern is that the yard say that the prop needs to be spun every month or else the barnacles dig in and never come off.

You have only two reasonable choices unless you believe in alchemy:

1. Pettit Zinc Barnicle Barrier - cheap and very effective

2. Propspeed - expensive and effective in certain circumstances.
