Prop Pullers... Where did they go?

I assume the company that made the Pro-Pull went under? It used to be that a 1-1.5" sailboat puller was cheap on ebay and many were selling. Now I struggle to find any prop pullers with mechanisms from the side.

Any advice on locations to find used ones or replacement products/brands is appreciated. Better yet, a DIY alternative?

Re: Prop Pullers... Where did they go?

I should add.... did the growth of plate style pullers reduce the demand for scissor or pro pull style?
There are eastern European or Asian knock offs of the pro-pull. Has anyone had good or bad experiences?
Many make plate pullers with just plate steel and bolts

Is it safe to assume this will work on any 2 blade? (i see some versions for 3 blade that will not) Yes? No?

Bletso's post is great. But, I am not sure i know enough about the diversity of props or have a steady hand with my torch to make a DIY puller that will not cause damage to the prop.

There are these, out of stock and discontinued models. I’ve used them and they’re my favorite. But quite expensive.

Re: Prop Pullers... Where did they go?

Plate type pullers are great and not too difficult to make but I was in a hurry and used an 8 inch, three leg gear puller from harbor freight. Awkward to set up but a couple of turns with a large wrench and a good whack with an even bigger hammer and off it came. YMMV

If you have restricted clearance you might need to make something.

Re: Prop Pullers... Where did they go?

I built a plate puller about 30 years ago using about 8" of 1" X 4" flat bar and it has proved to be one of the handiest pieces of multi use equipment on the boat. It gets used as a backup dolly, holder for pin punches, weight, the hole portion of a hole punch etc.

This is mine, made from scrap. worked great! Yes it took me doubling uo 1/4 in plate! 1/4 just bent the 1st generation and the prop stayed on.

Re: Prop Pullers... Where did they go?

Much to this hull diver's dismay, Pro-Pull has either gone out of business or discontinued making their "scissor pullers." I do not believe it is because the style became unpopular. They are the most versatile and easy to use pullers available, IMHO. There are are other manufacturers of scissor-type pullers but none of them are nearly as user-friendly as the Pro-Pull PPF-113 I own. Here's one that is fairly close though:
