Prop anti foul DIY

Sick of fouled props ?
I am
My next try will be smearing with a light
coat of silastic, will it work ?
New style anti foul are rubbery to make it
hard for fouling to grip & makes it easy
to dislodge. So I will give it a try.

Has anyone else got any suggestions
Please be positive in your comments
unless you have tried it without success !
Lets see if we can find alternatives to the
likes of propspeed which works but in
My opinion is well over priced

Tried lanolin but think this promotes
growth
Tried permanent marker ink does not work
& does not last
Tried anti foul does not last

As I stated in my original post propspeed works
But at 50% price of a new fixed blade prop is
far to expensive for my tastes
Until a reasonably priced alternative is
Available I will continue to experiment &
dive on them to clean if unsuccessful

If you can afford the exorbitant price then
Use propspeed

I have had no problem in buying Propspeed here in Oz. Enough for a typical yacht prop costs about 30 bucks even in this land of overpriced yottie things. Try a little shopping at boatyards that do their own application. They usually buy the stuff in kits that have enough material to do around 10 props. If you take your own containers I've found that many will sell you what you need, and despite all the BS some applicators spout, it is not difficult to apply if you read the instructions.

There is also a new player in the marketplace... name forgotten as of now... that does sell directly to DIYers. Not too much feedback yet, but it sure looks a lot like propspeed, feels like propspeed, and is applied like propspeed. Only the price is different, and to a small degree, the color.

If I could get it for $30 then I would use it!
Every time I ask its $200+ a prop with a cat
$400 is exorbitant, I can buy a new prop (fixed blade)
for that amount which is why I posted this thread.

Egg white, as many coats as you can get on in the time available. On a fine summers day in mainland Oz, there can be 5 or more.

Many may laugh but I have found it not too bad and better than any other of the backyard connections.

What is wrong with good old zinc paint?

For a while now, on advice of an old salt, I have been using zinc paint (97% zinc) spray from Walmart for $5 a can. It dries in less than an hour and you can get quite a few applications from one can.

Actually the first time I had to get brand name can at West Marine for a whopping $30. But time was of the essence so I bit the bullet. Each subsequent time I used Walmart's version (also branded but $5 a can) with similar if not better results.

As an added bonus my prop shaft zincs now last twice as long.

Try mixing some of the hottest pepper into your paint. I did it for a bottom worked well. It was used years ago prior to antifouling so it also works with antifouling.

Most reliable is bagging your prop with a thick plastic bag when not in daily use. I use one or more heavy duty bags of the smallest possible size and secure them with a wire tie. You do have to dive to place and remove but this is a lot easier than chipping and sanding away hard growth. If you are really into it you can put a chlorine pellet inside the bag.

Seems to start loosing its (anti)grip in around 12-18 months. I think it depends somewhat upon usage and amount of crap in the water, possibly temperature as well. Ain't no expert, mate!

Doesn't this turn your prop into a sacrificial zinc?
