Price of stainless steel prop shaft and cutlass bearing

Hey guys

How much did you pay for your prop shaft and cutlass bearing?

I got charged 750 bucks for a 48" 1" diameter stainless steel prop shaft and cutlass bearing, does that sound about right? Prop was around 600 bucks. This is in Canada.

It depends on whether that was $750 installed, or just for the materials.

Propeller Shafts for sale. Buy your Prop Shaft online and save. will sell you just the shaft for $250-300, but then you need to add in shipping and labor.

It was just for the materials I think. I haven't got the final bill yet.

When you get the bill is when you'll know if you got the shaft.

In San Diego I had a new 1" shaft made last year that was around 42". I paid $630 which included the coupling and the machining, fit, and facing.

Last month on Alabama gulf coast.... $600 including new bearing and facing coupler. Not installed, I did that. (~48" x 1 1/8")

More than expected based on a friend's input.

Is that US dollars? If it's $Cdn it doesn't sound too bad.

Re: Price of stainless steel prop shaft and cutlass bearing

I have seen a 3ft shaft same dia at about EUR 300 recently. A bearing is about EUR 30.

I have seen monel shafts, look like SS but have slightly goldish tint, they are way more expensive.

Re: Price of stainless steel prop shaft and cutlass bearing

Last year I replaced a 1-1/4" 4ft stainless shaft, cutlass bearing, and transmission coupler for my Walter V-drive, all done by my yard including labor and tax, for $700.00. This was in Titusville FL.

Re: Price of stainless steel prop shaft and cutlass bearing

whole thing came to 3700 CAD inc labour, shaft, prop, coupling and bearing

I'd have probably have just done it myself and saved a bunch of labour costs if I'd known they were gonna have to cut the shaft, or just not installed the PSS.

Lesson learned - always get a quote for any additional work that needs doing.

Sounds about right, 200 this side of the pond for a 4ft shaft cut with taper and key.

Re: Price of stainless steel prop shaft and cutlass bearing

Wow, I am going down to my local marine engineer with a nice bottle of wine! I paid less than AU$400 for my 48" x 1.5" shaft including taper, key ways etc, and Australia is supposed to be the expensive country for this stuff.
