Need shaft coupler - any suppliers known?

I need a 30 mm shaft coupler for a Yanmar/Kanzaki KM4A gear box. Any idea where to find a supplier? Google has led me to R&D Marine n England, and that's about all I can find. The boat is a 1995 Privilege catamaran.

The boat yard is also looking for sources, but seem to be stuck on a custom supplier out of Georgia .... (i.e. expensive and time-consuming??)

A metric shaft is truely a bit of an oddball size, but in a pinch you could get a machine shop to bore out 1.25" to 30mm. Its only 1mm more per side.

I'm finding it hard to believe that all the boat manufacturers went back to Imperial sizes, but apparently so. 30 mm is an odd size in deed for today's boats. so much for the metric system.

In any case, I'm finding that boring out a smaller diameter is pretty standard practice, and since it is a split coupling, the precision required isn't as stringent as I thought.

Not sure what you mean "went back to imperial" I don't think they ever left the imperial system. There's not much marine stuff setup in metric. its almost all imperial...

Buy a coupling with the correct flange size (Buck Algonquin) and have a machine shop/prop shop bore it to the right size.

They distribute the R&D shaft couplings and flexible couplings in the US and can bore the coupling to any size that you need including 30mm.

I would look at the Brunton SigmaDrive couplers. Give Rod Sampson a call to see if they can provide the 30 mm sizing. My unit was shipped from England and arrived in four days. The install was simple and the results were excellent.

First off, if we end up boring out, the prop shop wants my current shafts so they can 'mate up' the couplings. that involves a fairly involved process of getting the rudders off (after we lift the 51' catamaran 6 feet in the air...).

I will definitely try some of the other ideas here on Monday, if the old couplings cannot be saved by the machine shop.

i removed a huge westbreak coupler this fall from my yanmar, replacement cost $1570. and replaced it with a cff1.25 coupling for $44.00 from jacks marine service, 17 duval st. ft walton beach, 850-862-6540, jack is tops and the owner,dennis works the orders. it might be this number also cmcoo41.1.000 for $88.31. sorry details arent clear on my reciept.

With so many French built boats, particularly cats, it is difficult to believe that metric is difficult to find. Have you tried French sources?

A coupling should always have it's face turned and the bore mated to the shaft. How else can you be sure it is running true?
