Nanni SD-10 Saildrive : Removing Prop

Due to bad maintenance on my cat, the ZF folding props have seized on the shafts of the Nanni SD-10 drives.
A puller isn't shifting them easily, so I'm wondering if the shaft can be removed with the prop attached? It can then be fixed in a workshop.
I've undone the 2 keyed bolts behind the anode (which I chipped off!!) and can pull the assembly part way out, but it too appears to be stuck.
My question is - should the shaft pull straight out? Or does the prop have to come off first, so the shaft can be angled up to clear a bearing/something inside?

Have now been able to pull prop off!! For future reference the drive shaft doesn't pull straight out. It has to be angled up slightly to clear inside.

Hi Robco

Right now I have exactly the same problem that you have with my twin Nanni SD 10's. Looks like the props havent been removed for along time and they wont come off easily. Like you bearing pullers dont work for me either.

What did you do to get yours off in the end? Any tips would be most welcomed !

Cheers

Re: Nanni SD-10 Saildrive : Removing Prop

Hi DMR!
We only managed to get the props off by fabricating an extra long puller that went right over the props. They eventually came off but were damaged in the process - splines wrecked! - and had to be replaced.
Unfortunately we were fooled by the anodes which had looked OK but crumbled when we tapped them with a light hammer.
Hope you have better luck!!

Hi Roboco41

Well we managed to get the props off with bearing pullers without damaging anything, so fortunately we had better luck than you on that front. Thanks very much for the advice. I hope you are enjoying your Spirited 380 as much as I am. I bought mine second hand, Zinc #4 built by Stallion Marine. Now happily moored in Thailand

Just wondering if you have fitted an emergency steering rig ? One of the worries i have is if we lost the hydraulics there is no emergency steering rig nor obvious way of fitting one.

cheers
