I am using goretex

I just finished 8 hr cruise with new 54hp Isuzu, 1.25" shaft... 1300 rpm for break in. I put GFO goretex packing in the stuffing box. Finally, I have a nearly dry bilge. I did notice the stuffing box was hot to the touch but not the shaft. If anyone is using this stuff, did you notice anything similar..i.e., hot stuffing box?

thanks...

Re: I am using goretex

How hot? If to hot to comfortably hold your hand on the stuffing box then you probably have the nuts too tight and you are at risk of damaging the prop shaft.

These are subjective terms but I would say anything more than warm would be too much.
