hose on shaft

Endeavour 37. The hose on the shaft of the rudder twists when turning the helm. Normal?

Re: hose on shaft

The stuffing box packing is probably stuck to the rudder shaft.

Re: hose on shaft

If you are talking the packing gland type arrangement with a hose, no that would not be normal. You may have corrosion or just salt/calcium etc buildup on the shaft causing friction within the packing.
Enclosed spaces that get salt water in them and then are not replenished with fresh water corrode the SS readily.
