Flexofold Propellor Tuning in Maryland ?

Hi - I have a flexofold prop on my Farr 50 and I was wondering if anyone has ever had one of these tuned/balanced etc. I feel as though I am getting a little more vibration than usual when motoring... THanks, John

Is it clean? Barnacles etc? Shaft straight? Engine aligned?
We need more info.

Re: Flexofold propellor tuning in Maryland?

Pretty sure the other variables are ok. I just thought that periodic tuning of props was pretty standard but I was wondering if anyone has experience with folding ones. It has been on the boat for a decade with out any adjustment. The flexofold site offers very little help in terms of prop tuning and recommended maintenance. Thanks, John

Re: Flexofold propellor tuning in Maryland ?

John,

I have two large 10 year old flexofold props and also experienced vibration issues. It ended up being other factors in my case. (shaft slightly bent by lobster trap line and bearing issues) Not sure if this is helpful but the props ended up being fine.

Speak with Keith. He is very good a tuning props of all sorts and very fair on pricing. His shop is in Holiday Point Marina in Edgewater, MD.

Our Flexo has 8 years and about 2400 hours on it. No noticeable changes in performance or vibration. Just examined it whilst slipped and it is still in excellent condition... no play in the blades, gears still tight, and when freshly lubed the blades fall open from their own weight. A great bit of kit!

Cheers,

Jim
