Edson Wheel Removal

How do I remove the Edson wheel from my 1979 C&C 34 sailboat? I have removed the plastic cover and see a square hole under the cap near the shaft.

Do you want to remove the wheel or the binacle. The wheel on my boat is held on by a nut. the binacle requires removal of the compass. Did you look at the Edson website lots of good info. http://www.edsonmarine.com/support/P...aftRemoval.pdf

After removing the nut (cap?) you can pull the wheel off. You might need a gear-puller to do that without damaging it when it's stuck.

The square hole near the shaft is probably where the key fits.
