Question Cutlass Bearing on a Spray

Hi forum
i have a Steel roberts spray and when she was slipped found there was up down movement in the shaft.Some people sasy it is ok others say replace. There is no side ways movement and up down is proably no more than a 1 milmetre. The material seems to have a hatched look like fibre.I have no idea how to remove it or where to find replacement.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also i would like to put a dry seal on the shaft ??? Goodidea?
