Re: ct-34 cutless bearing set screws

I've never seen a loose cutlass. There must be some so everybody has set screws?

I had a Ta Chiao that had set screws on each side. The were hidden under bondo (ie: filled with bondo) but obvious with a little sanding. Often cutlass bearings don't come out without sawing anyway though. You saw them apart from the inside (sawzall) and remove in pieces. you'll then know if you have set screws!

Re: ct-34 cutless bearing set screws

on our ct-34 we had one set screw at the 6 oclock position ,we removed it and
still had to cut out the bearing with a sawzall blade .

hopefully the new bearing will show up on 9-1-15 and we can get the shaft and the prop on and get the boat back in the water.

Re: ct-34 cutless bearing set screws

Bluestocking's bearing is buried in the shaft log tube, which consists of inner stuffing box and outer bearing receiver, both threaded into a bronze tube. Bearing outer size is 49.5mm, and is difficult to remove from the exterior. 2 bearing ago, I decided to change to 2 " ( 53mm ), and have it machined to 49.5mm, except for the last 1/2" of its length. This allows me to push the bearing up against a shoulder, which gives me something to get the Stilson on to wring the bearing loose. Now takes 1/2 an hour to change.
