Also... Offshore and Ocean require longer passages... cross channel poodling is not enough... you head out into the Biscay...

Nonsense , firstly there's no on boat exam for " ocean". And yachtmaster offshore is usually done around the general exam area. Typically you would travel say 20 miles on your exam. You're usually asked to plan a long journey, but not to execute it. Typically an exam involves various boat handling activities around a nearby dock , anchoring or mooring under sail. Mob under sail then a relatively short sail ( couple of hours ) on which you will be asked questions on all the usuall stuff, do some blind nav exercises and demonstrate various forms if fixes etc. You must serve a proper lunch etc ( or evening meal). Then there may be a night or dusk entrance but it's not mandatory.

I did my RYA offshore 12 years ago , it hasn't been dumbed down

Actually I was refering to milage and trips logged.. overnight sailing etc... you needed some longer passages under your belt to take the exams.... cross channel only was not enough... or things have changed as far as I'm concerned....
Yup... just had a look... and its down to min 200 miles and 96 hrs at sea ... and 60 mile trips... thats almost daysailing.
In the 80's it was 500miles out and back... fewer folks took it because of time and miles needing to be logged to qualify for the exam application... mind... in those days the RYA issued the SSR as well... then it became more commercial...

Just to restate, as the exam has not been dumbed down , if anything its more rigerous, The prerequisities are ( you need to read carefully boatman, its not 200miles)

""50 days, 2,500 miles including at least 5 passages over 60 miles measured along the rhumb line from the port of departure to the destination, acting as skipper for at least two of these passages and including two which have involved overnight passages. 5 days experience as skipper. At least half this mileage and passages must be in tidal waters. All qualifying seatime must be within 10 years prior to the exam."

The reason it was changed in the 90s to that , its that previously you could do a couple of long distance runs and claim the mileage. That was felt to be cheatin!. Now you have to do at least 5 passages and the minimum to be accepted as a passage is 60 miles, obviously to make up 2,500 miles there actually will be many passages then 5.

I was wandering how can one prove sea time. I have thousands of miles and maybe hundreds of passages over 60 miles but I can't recall a single piece of paper that says it

Write up your own logbook retrospectively. The examiner will know quick enough if you have the experience associated with the claimed mileage.

Yup.... or create an 'Internet Presence'.... some of my trips/adventures have been 'reported' by websites like 'Towndock' etc...
As Goboatingnow says... when push comes to shove the BS'r is a sore thumb.... like the backline store clerk telling frontline tales...

Quite simple: ask the captains to write up a paper for the passages. Many will do so without any further asking.

For passages where you were the driver, provide the relevant authority with copies of passage documents - boat papers stating you are the owner, cruising permits issued on you name, immigration entries in your passport, etc. pieces of documentation that come along in every passage.

For any specific authority - ask them first what they accept as a proof of your seamiles and act accordingly.

What is the "standard logbook"?

Not all states require a logbook on a pleasure craft in the first place.

Is this some sort of British Standard? Something we can buy from RYA? Or download from their site? How does it get validated (e.g. stamped by port authorities?).

I would like to have a look but searched RYA site and did not find a link to any standard logbook, hence asking.
