TWIC Requirement

I haven't seen any discussion here of yet another requirement for USCG Licensed Mariners.

See the link at http://www.uscg.mil/nmc/Whats_new_to_NMC/twic_card.pdf

It is intended to allow unescorted access to controlled areas in ports, airports, etc. Since I do my work on pleasure craft and am not required to be in controlled areas of ports and the like, it seemed I shouldn't need a Transit Workder ID Card, but after my question to them, the USCG assured me everyone with a license must have one or risk revocation of their certificates.

Has anyone else had any experience with this?

George

I got one about 3 months ago or so.

Pretty painless as ya can do most of the stuff on the internet, then just show up for fingerprints, then show up again 6 weeks later after all the background checks to pick up the card.

Faith, thanks for the link to previous posts. I was off shore when the discussion occurred and must have missed it.

Just another hoop. You do it and get on with life. I'm still waiting to be asked to show mine, though.
