Systems Training (Diesel, Electrical, etc)

Over the last 20 years I've spent a fair bit of time as charterer, racer, and small boat owner. As I think about a larger boat and potentially a live aboard, one of the holes in my skills is systems troubleshooting and maintenance. I'd like to take some classes to get to at least intermediate skills in diesel maintenance, electrical systems, etc. Does anyone know of any classes such as these?

The trade school across town has generic diesel courses, but their weekday daytime schedule just won't work. I'm a bit handy around the house with carpentry and electrical, so think I could pick it up, but would rather find a class than trial and error or reading a book - especially with the diesel.

Thanks

Mark

Many* Diesel Engine Dealers offer training seminars directed towards owners’ needs. Check with your local engine dealers.

* ie: Mack Boring offers 1, 2, & 3-day seminars for Yanmar owners.

If you find a mechanic/electrician in your area that doesn't mind you watching him work and asking questions...pick his brain.

Each season I have 6-10 boat owners that have purchased vessels and want to become familiar with them......They have no problem signing the check at the end of a 6-8 hour day.....we go over everything......

I also have two brokers who routinely turn their new clients over to me or a friend of mine for the same education.

It is all about making people comfortable, and adding enjoyment to their cruising.

And If I may be so bold....it is entertaining.....

I don't know how far Del Rey is from Orang coaost college but look at their schedule. I think they run night classes.
