So have I... ... I introduce myself by my name, and state I am a 100 Ton Master. As Stu said, nowhere in that document does it use the word “Captain”. I let my customers decide to call me Capt.

Maybe this a a regional / cultural difference thing? In the U.K. / Europe, only military officers could call themselves “Captain” as it is a rank. You may be “the Captain” on board your own vessel, but that’s where it ends.

Is the situation different in the US?
