Rya day skipper...universally recognised?

Hi all.

Passed my Day Skipper earlier this year and wanting to charter next year. Can I just take my rya card and I am good to go?

Thx

Andy

Re: Rya day skipper...universally recognised?

Andy ,congrats I got mine last year .Judging by the several languages on the back of the licence I would expect so . Best Email and find out . two years ago I rented a 50ft beneteau with a hand written resume. I just finished the theory for coastal Yachtmaster . Secondary ports are a bitch !
Good luck
David

Re: Rya day skipper...universally recognised?

Andy congrats on your Day Skipper qual.

Easiest way to answer your question is to ask it to each place you want to charter as each one will likely be different.

In places like Italy and Greece some ask for RYA and some ask for ICC.

For this reason, Christa and I got our ICC but it only took paperwork thru the RYA. Very easy.

Re: Rya day skipper...universally recognised?

The world's population includes some narrow-minded, parochial types, and I doubt that any qualification (sailing or otherwise) can be guaranteed as "universally recognized".

That said, the RYA training system has a well-established reputation and its day skipper should be enough to impress most charter companies: especially if you completed the 'tidal' version of the practical course and have also done the associated shore-based theory course.

It's also worth noting that the principal credential required by many charter firms is a credit card.

Your Day Skipper ticket is widely accepted by itself, but it also qualifies you for an ICC with no further testing. This the most widely accepted qualification of all -- get it! The ICC may not be universally accepted, but it's pretty close. You can find all the info you could possibly need on the RYA site. www.rya.org.uk
