German, living in Canada, wanting to Sail in the Meds, what licence to get?

I am a bit confused about the whole ICC thing. Some places say they DON'T issue them to Germans, others say they do.

So far I have the Canadian PCOC (Pleasure Craft Operator Card for motorboats) and I am working on the Basic Cruising. From what I understand this should qualify me to get the ICC? (Outside of the whole passport issue)

Or what is my best course of action here? (And can someone recommend a school in Croatia/Greece or there abouts)

Hi MJ,

Sorry about posting in German, we're only allowed English here, I forgot.

Where were we? Ah yes, here's the link I found about Croatian training providers for ICC's. (Shhh, it's in German). Good luck!

...even you can choose an Austrian school for faster results.
(less paper work, less theory learning than in Germany )

AFAIK the Canadian PCOC is as much worth as a doggy walker licence...

Hi
Look at the RYA website, and go to the registered teaching schools, many of which are in Greece. They will normally be able to examin you , or if you are looking to sail out there why not do 5/7 day day skipper course, which if successfully completed will also enable you to get a Icc.

I have been sailing in Greek waters for some time and have never been asked for a certificate. Charter companies should require them, but I have to say I see on a daily basis some very poor examples of basic boat handling, and seamanship, and so wonder how strictly this is enforced.

Enjoy Greece it is special.

Hey!
Depending on the kind of boat (power of motor, lenght of the boat) and the countrie you want to visit, you might not need any license at all. Take a look at the regulations of the countries you want to got to (for example the German Kreuzer Abteilung has detailed information about every european country).
In one year cruising the med I haven't been asked for a license a single time, not even by the italian coast guard who took an our of their precious time to check on all our papers and search the whole boat for refugees.
Good luck!
