captain's 6 pack license

I am interested in getting my Captain's 6 Pack License (OUPV) but with so many options to choose from, I am not sure what to select....

Ideally, I am looking for the best & cheapest way to learn how to get my OUPV License:

1. via books and/or online...
2. schools are expensive, but I may no choice...
3. and there's no rush...!

Mainly, I am interested in learning something, not test memorization...

Thanks for your feedback, Robb

Re: captain's 6 pack license

interested in learning something? just get any book and read it. If you want your captain's license to actually be able to make money as a captain, then don't monkey around and just go to sea school and bam you're done and good to go. Either way you're going to learn something. School is more more involving than taking an online course.

Re: captain's 6 pack license

Just did the online 6 pack from Mariners Learning and found it easy to use at my pace (though the online quizzes MUST be combined with the quizzes in the books to make sure that you are practicing all of the test questions). Trying to find a week to sit in a classroom just didn't work for me. Priced about the same.

Re: captain's 6 pack license

I just started the Captain's 6-pack with NJ Sailing School in Brick, NJ. Excited to learn new topics, rules, regulations, etc. Not looking to make $$$ with it, but really just to better myself and more knowledge never hurt
