Just happened across this Shuttleworth day-charter cat that reminded me very much of the 'picnic cat' I saw in Thailand.

Arriving very late to this forum but very interested to hear what koum ended up buying.
I've just started planning to buy a power cat to do a trip up east coast of Aus and over to PNG, Solomon's, Vanuatu, New Caledonia and back to Aus.
The Bamba 50 above looks to be the best I can imagine but about twice what I can imagine being able to pay.
Africans look pretty good too.
I'm also wondering if Cat Man Do has finished his boat and what it looks like and how it performs?

Can't find any second handers for sale on the web - assuming because they are a new model. only pricing I've seen is 450k EURO making it more expensive than the Bamba.
Sure is a fine looking vessel though....

Yep, I'll be looking for a second hand Leopard 51PC when I hope they will start to hit the market in a couple years.

New Power Cat Player......Aquila 44....On a last minute whelm, my wife and I drove from Louisiana. to Miami boat show on Saturday...Looking at getting a Power Catamaran...We have a Jeanneau 42 DS now...but she hurt her leg a year ago and leaning and less steps are better...Plus we always have our Daughters and their boyfriends with us...and a Hobie Wave...and Paddleboards..and Kayaks....you get the Picture, we need Room and Deck space.

We fell in Love with the Layout of the Aquila 44...I finally got to talk to a Factory guy that actually knew the answers to my many questions.....I was So Impressed with the boat and the Layout...We Bought One!!!....Maintenance is very easy and well thought out...they made the boat with that in mind for the Charter fleet...Full width master state room with walk around bed is perfect.....Well made boat and the Best is the "Bulbs" on the front of each hull, like the Tanker ships...it seems to really improve the ride and a little better fuel economy, from what I saw.

Anyway, we take delivery in April...Fresh off the cargo ship from China...I broke every boat buying rule I ever set for myself......I guess that means, this is the Last boat ...I swear....No Really Its amazing how many panels will come off to access everything and you can't even tell they are removable...Volvo 225s D4....decent fuel econ.....800 miles on 290 gallons at 8. Mostly cruising the Gulf Coast Region. Ill keep y'all posted on how she does.

First off, congratulations. I hope you really get a great deal of joy from that new purchase.

Two questions I would have for you.
1) I assume you have not been out on this vessel in a really good swell/chop? When you eventually do it would be interesting to hear of any tendencies to 'sneeze' water back out from the tunnel and back over the decks. The Lagoon power cat had a tendency to do that. Here are two subject threads were this is discussed.

2) I would hope that the balsa core that they utilize is noy used below the waterline. And you should be particular aware of very proper sealing of ANY items you attach to the deck(s). Water migration into balsa decks can be a real problem long term.

Yes, I'm aware of the sneeze on most cars.. I had offshore fishing cat for 5 years.. This boat does have a pretty good V between the hulls to help stop pounding... We mostly don't go out in rough water anyway. Along gulf coat you can stay in the bay's for 100 miles or more. It's just something you compromise with s cat hull. No perfect boat.

Yep again for the Balsa core... A lot of boats have them, agreed you have to make sure everything is sealed good. I like to install stuff myself to make sure

Speaking of Balsa Core..I found this out about the AQUILA 44.."Balsa core in hull completely sealed between blocks"...sort of like blocks of Balsa, and the Infused Vacuum resin, is around the blocks...so if you do get a leak into the Balsa...just that small block is affected....At least thats the theory......Also, all thru hull fittings are Solid Fiberglass as well as the keel centerlines....

Now...the Hard part...how to get a name that connects Catamaran, Nautical, and Teeth...

I thought I would post this if anyone is interested in a true Cat Trawler. Most power cats are predominately converted sailing cats however this one was designed from the ground up to be an ocean crossing expeditionary trawler.




The real issue with the lightweight converted sailing cats is their range. Savanah had in her design criteria to be able to cross oceans and to cruise in high latitudes. To achieve this she carries 8000lt of diesel and today during tests achieved better than 1.5lts per NM. That's a range of over 5000nm.

She is also designed to be crewed by a crew of 2 (husband and wife).
